Mulino di Firenze

Our concrete commitment in the day-to-day management of the hotel:

In the bathrooms of all our rooms you will find soap and moisturizing cream dispensers: A great way of saving plastic that ruins our planet! We also have adopted the use of solid detergents. Why not try this format? Maybe you will embrace this and use it at home.
In the room you will find a kettle, Fair Trade certified coffee and Rainforest Alliance certified teas.
We offer you high quality spring mineral water in an environmentally friendly carton. The paper you will find available is all FSC and PEFC certified and is produced from “responsibly managed forests”.
The plastic rubbish bin liner bags have been discarded and replaced ones made of bio-degradable natural materials and the courtesy slippers are made of compostable materials.
Our windows are supplied with sensors to prevent wastage of air conditioning. When the windows are open the air conditioner switches off.
Monitoring and consumption containment.
Careful selection for partnerships and suppliers.
Support the local community with concrete actions:
• Display of local trade windows (Acquaflor and Florence Factory)
• Support to the association Akropolis, which deals with cultural dissemination on the territory of Florence
• Support to the association La Lanterna, which is concerned with supporting people with disabilities and their families.

How can I limit my emissions while on holiday?
Every moment of your holiday you can do something to make it a little more sustainable. Don’t worry, it’s not difficult! You will find below some useful information and good practices to keep in mind, both while you are in your hotel and during your visits, that can contribute to the health of our planet.

Limit your energy consumption: turn off the light when you are not in your room, remember to close the window when you turn on the air conditioning, do not leave electrical appliances on when you are not using them.
Do not waste water: do not leave the tap running when you don’t need it, ask to wash your clothes and towels only when necessary and not necessarily daily.
Produce less waste and dispose of it properly: avoid using disposable plastic products so as not to produce more waste, e.g. take a water bottle with you from home that you can fill up at the various water fountains in the city. If some rubbish is impossible to avoid, do not abandon it in the environment, in the canals or in the sea, but throw it in the dedicated areas where there are bins or dumpsters, respecting separate waste collection. If you do not find bins along your route or if they are full, leave no trace of your passage: take your waste back to the hotel and, why not, also those abandoned by others.
Specify how to correctly sort waste based on municipal guidelines.
Limit emissions when you eat: even the choice of what we eat can make a big contribution to limiting polluting emissions: try to limit excessive consumption of meat and fish, as these are the foods that cause the most emissions during their production. When you do decide to eat them, remember to prefer local products, an advice that applies to everything you eat, even better if it is organic and in season.
Promote the demand for doggy bags, if available.
